Now that we’re into January and with the vaccines roll out people are starting to think about holidays and good times for spring and summer, we thought we’d give some more tarp camping tips. Let's face it holidays abroad may still be problematic for some time, but with the government predicting a good chance of restrictions lifting by spring a camping staycation might be the perfect getaway!
And you don’t even have to wait for the glorious summer weather. This little video by avid tarp camper and YouTuber ‘Maiu Takes a Hike’ demonstrates 3 different tarp tent designs that are apparently ideal for rainy or even windy conditions.
Using nothing but a 3m x 3m Tarpaulin, a trekking pole and half a dozen tent pegs she was able to build some nice tarp tents. Her main reasons for using tarps instead of a conventional tent set up are chiefly low cost and the fact that they are much easier to pack, store carry and erect. And with money tight for many after the impact of Covid-19, a decent tarp tent could really help you save a pretty penny.
Whereas Maiu seems to favour the 3rd design, I’m not so sure. Seems to me the 2 nd design would be the best thanks to its inner door flap feature. I reckon the 3 rd design would leave you far too exposed in a real windy downpour. What do you think?
It should be pointed at as well, that though the video does not show it Maiu does favour the use of a ground sheet. For a grounsheet you could use a very lightweight tarp such as our Budget or Value tarps.
