Weatherproof Tarp Tents

2nd Jul 2021

Now that we’re into summer and people are starting to think about camping holidays and good times, we thought we’d give some more tarp camping tips. Let's face it holidays abroad may still be problematic for some time, so a camping staycation might be the perfect getaway! And though it's summer you can never be sure of a rain free holiday in the great British countryside - so here are some rainproof tarp tent designs!

This little video by avid tarp camper and YouTuber ‘Maiu Takes a Hike’ demonstrates 3 different tarp tent designs that are apparently ideal for rainy or even windy conditions.

Using nothing but a 3m x 3m  Tarpaulin, a trekking pole and half a dozen tent pegs she was able to build some nice tarp tents. Her main reasons for using tarps instead of a conventional tent set up are chiefly low cost and the fact that they are much easier to pack, store carry and erect. And with money tight for many after the impact of Covid-19, a decent tarp tent could really help you save a pretty penny.

Whereas Maiu seems to favour the 3rd design, I’m not so sure. Seems to me the 2nd design would be the best thanks to its inner door flap feature. I reckon the 3rd design would leave you far too exposed in a real windy downpour. What do you think?

It should be pointed out as well, that though the video does not show it Maiu does favour the use of a ground sheet. For a groundsheet you could use a very lightweight tarp such as our  Budget or Value tarps.
